Under the proposal, which was announced Monday, low-income Americans who receive at least $90 a month — just over 80 percent of all SNAP recipients — would get about half of their benefits in the form of a "USDA Foods package." The package was described in the budget as consisting of "shelf-stable milk, ready to eat cereals, pasta, peanut butter, beans and canned fruit and vegetables." The boxes would not include fresh fruits or vegetables."Do you see the problem? Are we going to force low income to eat GMO & processed food? This is a death sentence! Fresh food is required for health. We know that dangers of GMO & processed food, so I have to wonder if there is a bigger reason for this change to be considered. It's shameful to think that with 2/3 of the people who use SNAP or EBT being the very young, old or disabled, that we are willing to impose a death sentence by food. I'm sure that you, like me, have already noticed the increase in price of fresh foods. It's getting challenging for a lot of Americans to eat high quality food which is required for good health. Now we are going to force the weakest among us to eat only those foods linked to disease. What next? Are we going to be ok with cutting off their health care when the processed only food diet renders them sick?I hope that we will speak out against this proposed change with one voice. This isn't a right or left debate, it's about humanity and caring. If we need to cut the budget let's give less support to other countries, let's reduce the amount we pay Congress. Hey, we could even end a few wars and save billions! I'd love to hear your view on this. Comment below. Read the NPR article in full here.
